Callie Hicks, RD, CDE

Certified Diabetes Educator

I’ve found my passion working with people with diabetes. The reward of getting to assist someone in their journey toward health and quality of life with a chronic disease is particularly special for me.  I believes that it’s always a team approach with my patients.

Callie Hicks is a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator. She completed her bachelor of science degree in Dietetics at the University of Central Missouri and went on to complete her dietetic internship at Iowa State University. Callie has experience working in areas including eating disorders, genetic and metabolic disorders, diabetes, and weight management. Callie has worked with many ages groups from newborns to older adults in a variety of settings including a large medical teaching hospital, outpatient clinic, and military installation.

One of Callie's most rewarding experiences in diabetes education was a visit with a patient with newly diagnosed pre-diabetes. This patient came to the visit with a closed mind and a discouraged attitude about her health and new diagnosis. Callie spent the visit getting to know her and worked to set realistic goals along with the individual. After the visit, she expressed gratitude and even interest in coming to further classes to learn about her pre-diabetes and health. Six months later, she had lost 30 pounds, lowered her hemoglobin A1c by one full percent, and had regained pride in herself and her accomplishments!
