Q: My diabetes is steroid induced since 2003 due to medical conditions that require their use. I am beginning my fifth year of insulin. My blood sugar and weight has spiraled out of control since the recent death of my father in the fall of 2007. Is there any way your coaches can help someone like me get back on track?
A: My name is Laurie Andersen; I am a nurse practitioner and a wellness coach for Fit4D. The weight gain and insulin needs associated with the medical use of steroids can cause many people to develop diabetes and to have difficulty with weight control. It seems as though your situation may have been aggravated by your recent personal stress; my sincere condolences on the passing of your dad.
If you were to join Fit4D the first step would be a personalized health assessment including a medical history form, a short food diary and blood sugar records. We'd also ask about your current exercise habits, and what you'd enjoy doing to be more physically active. We'd then work with you to help make your goals happen. Your Fit4D team would include a nurse, an exercise physiologist, and a registered dietitian. We base our approach on proven techniques that assist people to meet their goals, so yes, I believe that we can help you. If you'd like someone to call you to talk about your goals and discuss our program further I'd be happy to arrange that. Please give me a number and best time to call you, and depending on the time/day either I or one of the other coaches will call. I will let you know ahead of time who'll be calling you. I look forward to assisting you to meet your weight loss and blood sugar goals.
